Book Review – Write to Sell, by Andy Maslen
In my recent review of Bob Bly's Copywriter's Handbook, I referred to it as one of the best books on the topic. Well, here's another one by respected copywriter and trainer Andy Maslen. I have delivered a number of courses on copywriting over the years and looking at Andy's book, I can assure anyone who buys it that they will get a structured, foolproof way of writing copy. I really like this book - it's easy to read (no doubt due to the copywriter's aim of writing short sentences in "plain talk") but it's also easy to follow and to implement the suggestions and guidance contained within the pages.
For those who don't know Andy, or who have not been on one of his training courses, he has a passionate and experienced understanding of how words work - and this comes across in the pages of this practical book. If you can't hire Andy for training or a project then reading this book is the next best thing. Read it, use it and start making your marketing pieces work harder for you.

Book Review – Commonsense Direct and Digital Marketing, by Drayton Bird
Commonsense Direct and Digital Marketing (Kogan Page 2008) is the first book every direct marketer should turn to when wanting to know about direct marketing. Whether copywriting, planning a campaign, or trying to understand design that works, turn to Drayton Bird's classic book for a life time of experience which you can tap into.
The strengths of the book, frankly, are its focus on the print side of direct marketing, despite the word digital in the title. With signs growing that direct mail is a major driver of web traffic, you need to maximise the impact of your print-based marketing to grow your sales and this book will show you how to do it - and do it well.
This book is a classic. You can buy it direct from the Red Page Marketing online bookshop
